আবহমান কাল ধরে মানুষের জীবনে ঘটে যাওয়া বিভিন্ন ঘটনার এবং অভিজ্ঞতার প্রেক্ষিতে পণ্ডিত ব্যক্তিগণের দ্বারা প্রবর্তিত এবং প্রচলিত হয় প্রবাদ বা প্রবচন ; এইজন্যে যে এগুলো অনুসরণ করলে যাতে পরবর্তিতে অন্যরা উপকৃত হতে পারে। তাই সকলের উচিত অন্তত একবার হলেও এগুলোকে বাস্তব জীবনের সাথে মিলিয়ে দেখা এবং এ থেকে উপকৃত হওয়া।

A friend in need is a friend indeed-	অসময়ের বন্ধুই বন্ধু; (A true friend is one to depend upon in trouble.)
After clouds comes fair weather-	দুঃখের পর সুখ; (Happiness follows misery.)
After death comes the doctor-	চোর পালালে বুদ্ধি বাড়ে; (Nothing to do when it is too late. To be wise after the event.)
After meat comes mustard-	নুন আনতে পান্তা ফুরায়; (Hunger waits for delicacy.)
After sweetmeat comes sour sauce-	যত হাঁসি ততো কান্না, বলে গেছে রাম শর্মা; (If you laugh today, you may cry tomorrow.)
A little learning is a dangerous thing-	অল্প বিদ্যা ভয়ংকরী; (Shallow knowledge turns one’s head. )
All covet, all lost-	অতি লোভে তাঁতী নষ্ট; (Grasp all, loss all.)
All feet tread not in one shoe-	নানা মুনির নানা মত; (As many man, so many mind.)
All his geese are swans-	নিজের জিনিস সকলেই ভাল দেখে; (One’s own things are the best.)
All seems yellow to the jaundiced eye-	পক্ষপাতদুষ্ট লোকের নিকট সবই মন্দ; (To a biased mind everything is in fault; A prejudiced eye sees faults that are not.)
All’s well that ends well-	সব ভাল যার শেষ ভাল; শেষ রক্ষাই রক্ষা; (It is all right if it turns out well in the end.)
All that glitters is not gold-	চকচক করলেই সোনা হয় না; (Trust not appearance.)
All things come to him who waits-	সবুরে মেওয়া ফলে; (Patience is sweet.)
Alpha and Omega-	আদি ও অন্ত; (The beginning and the end.)
Everybody’s business is nobody’s business-	ভাগের মা গংগা পায় না; (An as that is common property, is always worst saddle )
An Ethiopian will not change his skin -	অঙ্গারঃ শতধৌতেন মলিনত্বং ন জায়তে; শত বার ধুলেও কয়লা , তেমনি থাকে ময়লা; (One’s own nature remains unchanged.)
A pet lamb makes a cross ram -	কাঁচায় না নোয়ালে বাঁশ, পাকলে করে টাঁশটাঁশ; (too much indulgence spoils a child)
A rolling stone gathers no moss-	স্থিরমস্তিষ্ক না হইলে উন্নতি হয় না; অস্থির ব্যক্তির প্রতিষ্ঠা বা অর্থসঞ্চয় হয় না; (an unsteady fellow will never make good; a perpetual traveler is poor.
Arthur could not tame a woman’s tongue -	অবলার মুখই বল; (None can control a woman’s tongue.)
A serpent under the flower -	বিষ কুম্ভং পয়্মুখম্; (Treachery masked in friendship.)
As is the evil, so is the remedy -	যেমনি বুনো ওল, তেমনি বাঘা তে'তুল; (Drastic remedy is necessary.)
A sleeping fox catches no poultry -	কু'ড়ে লোকের দ্বারা কোন কাজ হয় না; "ন হি সুপ্তস্য সিংহস্য প্রবিশন্তি মুখে মৃগাঃ"; (An idle fellow can do nothing in life.)
As the wind blows, you must set your sail -	ঝোপ বুঝে কোপ মার; সময় থাকতে কাজ গুছিয়ে নাও; (Make the best of an opportunity.)
A stitch in time saves nine -	সময়ের এক ফোঁড় অসময়ের দশ ফোঁড়; (Remove a defect in time, and there will be nothing else to mend.)
