বিভিন্ন স্থানে article এর ব্যবহার

Use of Articles:

নিচে বিভিন্ন স্থানে  article এর ব্যবহার বর্ণিত হলো ।

General and Exceptional Use of a/an:

সাধারণত একটি consonant দিয়ে শুরু হওয়া শব্দকে অনির্দিষ্টভাবে বোঝাতে “a” ব্যবহৃত হয়। একটি vowel (a, e, i , o, u) দিয়ে শুরু হওয়া শব্দকে অনির্দিষ্টভাবে বোঝাতে “an” ব্যবহৃত হয় ।

Generally,
“a” is used before a word starting with a consonant to denote a non-specific
thing. “An” is placed before a word that starts with a vowel (a, e, i, o, u) to
denote a non-specific thing.

Example: 

o    I saw a dog
there.

o    I saw an ant
on the cake.

এই নিয়মটির কিছু ব্যাতিক্রম আছে । যেমন: যদি কোনো শব্দের প্রথম অক্ষর consonant হয় কিন্তু এটি vowel এর মতো করে উচ্চারিত হয় তবে এর আগে “a” এর পরিবর্তে “an” ব্যবহৃত হয় ।

Example: 

o    She is an honorable
member of the Parliament.

o    My father was an honest
doctor.

আবার কোনো শব্দ যদি vowel দিয়ে শুরু হয় কিন্তু consonant এর মতো উচ্চারিত হয় তবে এর আগে “an” এর পরিবর্তে “a” ব্যবহৃত হয় ।

Example: 

o    This is a UK
based company.

o    This is a university
where students can study in a sound environment.

General
Use of “The”:

Singular/Plural
noun কে নির্দিষ্ট করতে এর আগে “The” ব্যবহৃত হয় ।

“The”
is used before singular/plural nouns to specify it.

Example: 

o    The student I met at the
library was really

o    The boys of this school are
good at Football. 

Indefinite/
Definite article before an Adjective:

কখনো কখনো একটি article একটি adjective দ্বারা নির্দিষ্ট noun কে নির্দেশ করে । শব্দের ক্রমটা এমন হবে :

Sometimes
an article denotes a noun modified by an adjective. The order of the words will
be as follows:

Article+
Adjective+ Noun

Example: 

o    I saw the little
girl singing in the party.

o    This is a small
gift from

o    I heard an interesting
news on TV.

Articles
before Countable and Uncountable Nouns:

A/an শুধুমাত্র countable noun এর পূর্বে ব্যাবহৃত হয় ।

A/an can be used before the countable nouns
only.

Example:

o    Give me a glass
of water.

o    She wants a bottle
of milk.

আপনারা বলতে পারবেন না “Give me a water” /“She wants a milk” ।

“Uncountable
noun” গুলোর আগে The ব্যাবহৃত হতে পারে অথবা article কে সম্পূর্ণভাবে বাদ দেয়া যায় ।

Example:

o    “Give me the water”
(specific water) or “Give me water” (any water).

o    “She bought the milk
from this market.” (specific milk) Alternatively, “She bought milk from this
market.” (any milk)

Never
use an article before a Pronoun:

Pronoun
এর আগে কখনো article ব্যবহার করা উচিত না । Pronoun, noun এর পরিবর্তে ব্যবহৃত হয় কারণ একই noun বারবার ব্যবহৃত হলে শুনতে খারাপ লাগে । Pronoun একটি noun কে নির্দেশ করে তাই এর আগে article ব্যবহারের কোনো প্রয়োজন নেই । যদি আপনি ব্যবহার করেন তবে দুবার নির্দেশ করা হবে যা ভুল ।

Articles
should never be used before pronouns. Pronouns are used instead of nouns
because if you use the same noun time and again, it will not sound good. A
pronoun is specifying a noun, so there is no need to use an article before it.
If you use, there would be a double specification which is wrong.

Example:

o    She is reading the my
(Incorrect)

o    She is reading my book.
(Correct)

Never
use an article before Real Nouns:

Real
noun এর আগে কখনো article ব্যবহার করা উচিত না । যেমন: মানুষ, স্থান, দেশ, ভাষা, পাঠ্য বিষয় , পাহাড় , হ্রদ , মহাদেশ প্রভৃতির নাম ।

Articles
should never be used before real nouns, i.e., names of people, places,
countries, languages, academic subjects, mountains, lakes, islands, continents, etc.

Example:

o    The Argentina played
really (Incorrect)

o    Argentina played really
(Correct)

o    She is learning the
Chinese. (Incorrect)

o    She is learning Chinese.
(Correct)

o    She is good at the
Mathematics. (Incorrect)

o    She is good at
Mathematics. (Correct)

This
rule has few exceptions in the following cases:

নিচে এই নিয়মের কিছু ব্যাতিক্রম আছে:

o    A union of countries (কিছু দেশের সংযুক্তি ) like the United
States, the Netherlands etc.

o    A group of some lakes (কিছু হ্রদের সমাহার ) like the East African
lakes, etc.

o    Ranges of mountains (পর্বতমালা ) like the Rockies or
the Andes, etc.

o    Island chains (দ্বীপপুঞ্জ ) like the Hebrides,
the Canary Islands, etc.

o    Names of oceans, seas,
and rivers (সাগর, মহাসাগর, নদীর নাম) like the Ganges, the
Pacific, the Atlantic, etc.

o    Points on the globe (গ্লোবের বিন্দু ) like the North pole,
the South pole, etc.

o    Geographical areas (ভৌগোলিক স্থান ) like the East, the
West, the Middle East, etc.

o    Peninsulas, forests,
deserts, and gulfs (উপদ্বীপ, বন , মরুভুমি , উপসাগর) like the Iberian Peninsula, the Black Forest, the
Sundarbans, the Sahara, the Persian Gulf, etc.

Implied
Article or Zero Article:

কখনো কখনো কিছু নির্দিষ্ট  noun এর আগে article থাকেনা কিন্তু article বোঝায় । এদেরকে implied article/ “zero articles” বলে ।

Sometimes
articles are omitted before certain nouns where the article is implied but not
actually visible. These implied articles are also called “zero articles”.

Example:

o    Let’s go for a long
drive tonight. (Incorrect)

o    Let’s go for long drive
(Correct)

o    The fortune favors the
brave. (Incorrect)

o    Fortune favors the
brave. (Correct)

o    The perseverance is a
valuable quality of human (Incorrect)

o    Perseverance is a
valuable quality of human (Correct)
