Prefixes and Suffixes কাকে বলে

Prefix (উপসর্গ):

Prefix হচ্ছে এমন (বর্ন বা বর্ন সমষ্টি) etter/ letters যা শব্দের প্রথমে বা শুরুতে সংযুক্ত হয়ে নতুন word গঠন করে। বা কোন Word এর পূর্বে যুক্ত হয়ে উহার  পরিবর্তন সাধন করে, মূলত
Prefix-এর ‘pre’- এর অর্থ ‘Before’ (পূর্বে) ।  তাকে Prefix বলে।
কোন word-এর সাথে যুক্ত না হলে, শুধু Prefix এর কোন পূর্ন অর্থ নেই। 

উদাহরণঃ Un + Able = Unable, Dis + Agree = Disagree.

নিচে কিছু Prefix দেওয়া হলঃ

poly + gamy = polygamy

pro + democracy =prodemocracy

dis + credit = discredit

il + legitimate =illegitimate

un + cork= uncork

A + Shore =Ashore ;

mono + gamy =mongamy

Anti + Social = Antisocial ;

Auto + Graph =Autograph ;

Auto + Biography = Autobiography ;

mis + behavior= misbehavior

mis +fire = misfire

Ab + Normal = Abnormal ;

Al + Together = Altogether ;

Al + Ready = Already ;

Co + Operate = Cooperate ;

Dis + Allow = Disallow ;

Dis + Join = Disjoin ;

dis + charge= discharge

Ex + Student = ex-student ;

Fore + cast = forecast ;

Fore + tell = Foretell ;

Fore + Father = Forefather ;

Non + Sense = Nonsense ;

Pre + Independence = Pre-independence ;

Semi + Circle = Semicircle ;

Semi + Vowel = Semivowel ;

Sub + Committee = Subcommittee ;

Super + Natural = Supernatural ;

Ultra + modern = Ultramodern ;

Vice + Chancellor = Vice-Chancellor ;

Marco + Cosm = Macrocosm ;

Suffix (প্রত্যয়):

Suffix হচ্ছে এমন letter/ letters বর্ন বা বর্ন সমষ্টি
যা শব্দের শেষে সংযুক্ত হয়ে নতুন word গঠন করে। বা Word এর শেষে যুক্ত হয়ে উহার পরিবর্তন সাধন করে, তাকে Suffix বলে।

Prefix-এর মতই Suffix-এর ও নিজস্ব কোন অর্থ নেই। কিন্তু,
এরা উভয়েই Word-কে ভিন্ন মাএা প্রদান করে।

উদাহরণঃ Able + ity = Ability, Agree +ment = Agreement.

pretend + er= pretender

Author + ess = Authoress

Social + ist = Socialist

assess + ment = assessment

Terror + ist = Terrorist

Royal + ist = Royalist

Break + age = Breakage

Depend + ence = Dependence

Differ + ence = Difference

Child + hood = Childhood

Free + dom = Freedom

Wise + dom = Wisdom

Survive + al = survival

Hill + ock = Hillock

Bull + ock = Bullock

size + able = sizeable

India + an = Indian

Victory + an = Victorian

Hope + less = Hopeless

amend +ment= amendment

Forget + full = Forgetful

Use + full = Useful

Spoon + ful = Spoonful

Thought + full  = Thoughtful
