Of course (certainly, অবশ্যই)—Of course, you know what he wants to mean.


Of your own accord- নিজের চেষ্টায় করা- He did it of his own accord.


On the contrary (just opposite,
বিপরীত পক্ষে)—I do not hate him; on the contrary I love
him.


On the wane (declining, কমে যাওয়া)-His fame is on the wane now.


On the whole (generally
speaking,
মোটের উপর)— On the whole, his conduct is good.


On foot- পায়ে হেঁটে’- They travelled to Savar on foot.

On the spur of the
moment (under the impulse of the moment,
অল্প সময়ের উত্তেজনায়)-He did it on the spur of the moment.


Out of date (out of
fashion,
অকেজো)-This fashion is now out of date.


Out and out – তন্নতন্ন করে, শুরু থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত। Thoroughly – আদি থেকে অন্ত পর্যন্ত- He searched the matter out and out.


Out of one’s wits - অত্যন্ত বিচলিত- The horror movie scared them out of their
wits.


Out of the wood (free
from danger,
বিপদমুক্ত)— He is not yet out of the wood.


Out of doors (out side, বাইরে)—It is bitterly cold out of doors.


Out of sorts (not well, ভালো নয়)— He is out of sorts now.


Out of order (defective,
অকেজো)-This car is out of order.


Out of temper (angry, রাগী)-He is out of temper now.

Pandora’s box (আপাতঃ দৃষ্টিতে ভালো মনে হলেও আসলে ভালো নয়)—His words proved to be Pandora’s box.


Pack of lies (ডাঁহা মিথ্যা)—He told pack of lies to prove himself
innocent.


Pass away (মারা যাওয়া)— He passed away last night.

মিথ্যা পরিচয় দেয়া; Pretend – ভান করা- He passed himself off as a noble man.


Pave the way (পথ বের করা)— He paved the way to gain success.


Pin money (স্ত্রীর দেয়া হাত খরচ)— She saved her pin money.


Pick one’s pocket (পকেট মারা)— He tried to pick my pocket.


Pick a quarrel (ঝগড়া করা)—Do not pick a quarrel.


To play on a fiddle – অনর্থক সময় নষ্ট করা- To waste time-He played on a fiddle by nature.


Pack up a quarrel (ঝগড়া মিটানো)— He packed up their quarrel.


Put up with- সহ্য করা - tolerate- I could not put up with his behavior.


Put the cart before the
horse –  to reverse the natural order of things-
কোনো জিনিসের স্বাভাবিক ক্রমকে পাল্টে দেয়া- The leader put the cart before the horse.


Rank and file (common
men,
সাধারণ লোকজন) —We should pay attention to the rank and file of the country.


Red letter day
(memorable day,
স্মরনীয় দিন)—The 16th December is a red letter day in the history of Bangladesh.


Red tape (official
formalities,
অফিসের কাজ)—Red tapism causes delay in official work.


Read between the lines
(understand the significance,
অন্তনিহিত অর্থ বুঝা) Try to read between the lines of the letter.


Riding for a fall – বেপরোয়াভাবে কাজ করা- to act recklessly- He rides for a fall in the election


Right and left – এলোপাথাড়ি- indiscriminately- He planted trees right
and left.


Run high (বেড়ে যাওয়া) —The price of everything has run high.


Run short (কমতি পড়া) —I ran short of money.


Run into debt (ঋনগ্রস্থ হওয়া) — He ran into debt.


Run a risk (ঝুকি নেয়া) — He ran a risk to save his life.


Round the clock
(twenty-four hours,
চব্বিশ ঘন্টা)-He is working round the clock.

Set free (liberate, মুক্তি দেয়া)-The prisoners were set free.


Slow coach (a lazy man, ধীর গতিসম্পন্ন ব্যাক্তি)—You cannot expect much from a slow coach
like him.

mistake in writing,
লেখার ভুল)—This mistake is due to a slip of the pen.


Slip of the tongue (a
slight mistake in speaking,
কথার ভুল)—This is a slip of the tongue.


Square meal (full meal, দুমুঠো ভাত) — He is too poor to have a square meal every day.


Steer clear of (avoid, দূরে থাকা)— You must steer clear of evil company.


Stone's throw (within
very short distance,
অল্প দুরত্বে)-Our school is at a stone's throw form our
house.


Safe and sound (নিরাপদে)— He reached home safe and sound.


Salt of the earth (গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যক্তিবর্গ) —The salt of the earth is remembered
always.


Scapegoat (উদোর পিন্ডি বুদোর ঘাড়ে চাপানা)—He was made scapegoat of the incident.


See to (বিবেচনা করা)— I will see to the matter.


Set out (যাত্রা করা)— I will set out in time.


Set something right (ঠিক করা)— He will set the machine right. 


Sheet anchor (হাতের প্যাচ)— This small piece of land is his sheet
anchor.


Short cut (সংক্ষিপ্ত পথ)— He comes by this short cut.


Show good manner – ভালো আচরণ প্রদর্শন করা। Behave yourself – নম্রভাবে ব্যবহার করা- You should show good manner in the company of young
ladies.


Short temper (রগচটা)— He is a man of short temper.


Silver living – hope- আশা বা ভালো দিক- Every cloud has a silver lining.


Speed money -ঘুষ; উৎকোচ; bribe – He hankers after speed money.


Soft Soap- Flatter for
self motives –
নিজ অভিপ্রায়ে/অভিসন্ধিতে তোষামোদ করা-He was expert in soft soap.


Swan-song – last work-অন্তিম গীত, শেষ কীর্ত, শেষ কর্ম- This writing is the swan song of Kazi Nazrul slam.
